About

We're located in room 110 in the Plemmons Student Union!

Volunteer-Run, Volunteer Led

We are the only completely volunteer-run Women's Center in the state of North Carolina. Most centers have a director, staff, interns, and volunteers. But our volunteers, all Appalachian State University students, run the Center at a similar capacity to other Centers without the heirarchical organization. This "flat" organization makes our center unique and as a result, student-centered. We participate in national awareness campaigns, plan and coordinate our own programs and events, and regulate ourselves with the aid of a staff advisor and a part-time graduate assistant. This hands-off approach ensures that all volunteers can contribute to the culture and the goals of the Women's Center.

Current Hours of Operation

Monday + Thursday: 10am - 5pm
Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday: 10am - 6pm

Resources

The Women's Center offers free menstrual products and condoms to all students at Appalachian. The volunteers are available to provide referrals to resources on and off campus. The Women's Center does not stock medical supplies, but we can refer visitors to places where they can be obtained, both on and off campus.

The Women's Center serves as a safe space to breastfeed or pump. If our door is closed, please feel free to go to the PSU Information Desk for keys to the PSU Lactation Lounge.

Campus Organization

The Women's Center is housed under the umbrella of Intercultural Student Affairs, alongside the Multicultural Center and the LGBT Center. All three of these Centers are located in the Plemmons Student Union in the International Hallway.

Affiliation

We have no political or religious affiliation.

Legality and Confidentiality

The Women's Center is a safe place and a resource for both App State students and community members. While we are discreet and do not discriminate, we cannot guarrantee legal confidentiality and must conform to the regulations of Appalachian State University in reporting crimes and other incidents. Our volunteers make every effort to refer individuals to a more appropriate organization if absolute confidentiality is desired.

Cooperative Projects

The Women's Center is proud to work with other organizations. These range from on-campus clubs to community nonprofits. If you represent an organization and are interested in combining efforts, please contact our Graduate Assistant!
