About the Women's Center

MSD Logo1

The ASU Women's Center is a student-run, university funded organization located along the International Hallway of Plemmons Student Union. It is part of the Office of Multicultural Student Development.

Our Mission Statement: "to enhance awareness of the challenges facing women on this campus and in this society, and to promote, support, and celebrate the diverse Appalachian State University women's community. We strive to foster an environment that creates opportunities for the education, leadership development and personal growth of women, regardless of their background or beliefs. The Women's Center contributes to the ASU community by offering its own programs and services, collaborating with all existing entities and by working to transform discriminatory institutional structures and practices."

We are staffed by volunteers, faculty, and a part-time graduate assistant.

The Women's Center is proud to work with other organizations. If you represent an organization and are interested in combining efforts with us, please contact us at womenscenter@appstate.edu or Suzette Patterson, Assistant Director of Gender Education, at pattersnsl@appstate.edu.

Please Note: The Women's Center has no political affiliation. We are a diverse group of people who volunteer our time and effort to improve the lives of all women. The Women's Center is a safe place and a resource for both ASU students and community members. We are discreet and do not discriminate, but cannot guarrantee legal confidentiality and must conform to the regulations of ASU in reporting crimes. If confidentiality is desired, our volunteers will make every effort to refer individuals to a more appropriate organization.
